App Store Optimization Case study

Number one rankings for the main app-store keywords and 1,000+ new installs

The application needed to be found for the searches most closely connected with its product. We focused the ASO strategy on its primary keywords and measured whether stronger visibility translated into installations.

STARTING POINT

The Situation

The app depended on discovery inside the store, but its listing did not occupy the leading positions for its most valuable searches. That limited the number of relevant users who could find and consider it.

Problem

01

Main keywords lacked visibility

The app was not leading the searches most closely connected with installation intent.

Problem

02

Discovery limited acquisition

Users could not choose an application they did not see in the search results.

Problem

03

Rankings needed business context

A higher position would only matter if it also generated real installations.

Problem

04

The target had to stay focused

The strategy needed to prioritize the main terms rather than scatter effort across unrelated keywords.

WHAT MADE IT COMPLEX

The Challenge

App-store visibility can improve without producing meaningful acquisition. The project therefore needed two connected measures: ranking gains for the correct searches and installations from real users.

The ASO work also had to remain focused. Broad visibility would be less useful than leading the specific queries that best represented the application’s product.

The primary keyword set had to be selected carefully

Ranking movement had to be connected with installations

The store listing needed to compete inside a limited search environment

The result had to be measured over a defined two-month period

Our Approach

We treated keyword position as the route to acquisition, not the final objective.

Step

01

Define the priority searches

We centered the project on the app’s main keywords and the searches most relevant to user intent.

Step

02

Review the store presence

We assessed how the existing listing supported or limited visibility for those priority terms.

Step

03

Implement the ASO strategy

We aligned the store presence with the selected keyword targets.

Step

04

Track ranking movement

We monitored whether the app moved into stronger positions for the searches that mattered.

Step

05

Measure installations

We evaluated the two-month acquisition result alongside the new rankings.

Back2Rank approached the app store as a search channel with clear priorities, not as a list of one-time changes. We always knew which keywords were being targeted, what had been improved, and how performance was developing. Reaching the number one position for our main searches and generating more than 1,000 new installations in two months showed us the direct value of the strategy.

The Results

The app reached the number one position for its main keywords

The improved search visibility produced more than 1,000 new installations over two months, a conservative average of more than 500 installations per month.

The two outcomes support each other. The application did not collect isolated ranking improvements. It became easier to discover for relevant searches and converted that visibility into new users.
